We are off to a white-hot start in 2019. This time it’s our Seattle Operation bringing in an ACEC award in the “Unique or Innovative” category for their work on the Puyallup Tribe of Indians I5 Casino Roundabout. This project presented some unique challenges that we were able to respond accordingly to. By buckling down and providing creative, exceptional service, we were able to turn in an award-winning product and further our flourishing relationship with the Tribe, one of our key clients in the Seattle Operation. Congratulations on a job well done!
Some of the challenges that were addressed in this project were:
- The Puyallup Tribe wanted to improve access to and from I5 and the Emerald Queen Casino
- First Creek and existing underground utilities immediately adjacent to the site limited design options
- 30th Street had a steep 4% grade leading into the location of the new roundabout
WHPacific was successful in providing a roundabout to connect the three existing streets and the new I5 access ramps to allow traffic to flow freely and safely through the area.
As a result, this new roundabout enhances access and improved safety for tribal members and the public. It increases opportunities for future development and economic growth of the Puyallup Tribe in the project vicinity. Last but not least, it drastically improved access for cyclist and trail users.
