Project Description

WHPacific provided design and construction management services for the reconstruction of Runway 16-34; 3,200’ x 75’. The project included new MIRL runway lighting and electrical systems; adding REILs to both runway ends, lighted wind cones, airport beacon, under-drain systems, airfield directional signs and installation of edge reflectors on the parallel taxiway. The design process developed various runway rehabilitation alternatives with methods to locate and remove deteriorating logs (left in the subgrade under the original airport’s construction) that promulgated sink-holes in runway. The recommended alternative, to “lace” the new runway construction footprint with deep-reaching trenching machines to locate logs and other debris for removal and backfill with native sand, was approved by the FAA.
