WHPacific designed and managed the construction of four highway overcrossings, requiring vertical adjustments in response to freight mobility limitations, on OR22 in Marion County. These overcrossings included the heavily traveled Lancaster Drive in Salem. The project raised two bridges and lowered the highway under two to meet ODOT’s minimum vertical clearance goal of 17’-0”. One of the bridges required a unique differential lift (6” on one side and 2.5’ on the other) to accomplish this goal. Other WHPacific and construction team achievements included proactive public outreach, maintenance of traffic during construction, accelerated reconstruction to reduce closure impacts, and collaborative modification of design during construction to save over $1 million. WHPacific provided construction administration and construction engineering/inspection services for the two phases of construction in 2012/2013. This project won the Grand Award in the ACEC of Oregon’s 2015 Engineering Excellence Awards.
