WHPacific is providing survey location data for selected gas valve stations of varying size and complexity, in order to modify the valve sites by retrofitting supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems in the expanded vaults or valve substations.
One of the larger valve stations surveyed was the Quigley Valve Station in Santa Clarita, Los Angeles County. We performed public records research to acquire official locations of public roadways, section lines, property lines, existing gas transmission main easement locations, and monument maps for County of Los Angeles Highways. We established 3D project control with GPS equipment based on national geodetic survey (NGS) continuously operating reference stations (CORS) and local North American vertical datum of 1988 (NAVD 88) Bench Marks. We located the valves, exposed piping and specialized equipment such as the pipe inspection gauge launcher and receiver. We located the existing property control monuments and the public road right-of-way monuments, and placed property lines for the valve station in place based on the recovered monumentation. We have surveyed numerous valve stations in underground vaults located within the public right-of-ways in Orange, Los Angeles, and Ventura Counties.
